  3. Looking for a cab over camper to fit a 1973 Ford f250 camper special that belonged to my father in law. My husband is restoring the truck and we would like to find a camper hopefully in the southeast to go on it. Original would be nice to find…thanks for suggestions!

    1. Hi, Susiebell,
I’m glad you found our site! :)
It’s great to hear that you and your husband are restoring your father in-law ‘s F250. We are doing the same thing to my dad’s 73 ford! It has been mostly a lot of fun, too. I won’t get into the not so fun things.
There are still quite a few era-correct campers out there for your truck. A restored vintage truck with a matching camper is cool for a lot of reasons. The downside is that many if not most of them need a fair amount of work, due to the age. Almost all of them (American Road, included) developed places to leak water. Most all campers have a wood structure underneath, and even though a camper looks great on the outside, there may be hidden rot. It’s repairable, if you are up to the task to do it yourself. Or don’t mind shelling out to a professional shop that specializes in this sort of thing.
The next thing to consider is the capacity of your truck. You definitely don’t want to overdo it by trying to carry a camper that really needs a heavier truck. Please check out an excellent online magazine called truckcampermagazine.com.
Search their site for articles on matching campers to vehicles. They have some great articles that can really help you decide what you’d like to do.
Feel free to ask any questions, and although I’m far from an expert on the subject, I’ll try to help you in any way I can. Good luck with your endeavor! I hope to hear how you do with your project. Send some pictures!

      Happy camping!
      Tony

    2. Still throwing around the idea of selling my american road camper, she is in exceptional condition. Going to the Keys in her for 2 months during tarpon season and I may know then. Thinking about getting something to leave in trailer park or campgroundin the keys as that is where I spend most of my trips anyways.
So if you are looking for an exceptional American Road you may be reading the right post.

    3. I recently finished restoring my American Road Camper.
You’ll have a hard time finding one in better condition.
