WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

  • Pregnant African American women
    • Eighteen years of age or older
    • San Francisco resident
    • Willing to participate in a ten week support group

WHAT ARE THE INCOME REQUIREMENT TO PARTICIPATE?

Services are free to any eligible African American woman regardless of her income

WHY ARE THE SERVICES ONLY FOR BLACK WOMEN?

Babies born to Black women die at three times the rate of other babies in all populations within the first year of life. Black women die in childbirth at four times the rate of other women in all populations. Our mission is to close the gap in Black infant and maternal mortality.

WHERE ARE GROUPS HELD?

Groups are held at our support center in the Western Addition located at 1290 Fillmore St. Suite 103 SF, CA 94115 and at various other community agencies in the Bayview district.

DO I HAVE TO COME TO THE GROUP TO BE IN THE PROGRAM?

Yes! The program is a group intervention designed to help women manage stress, build a support network and be empowered to make healthy choices for themselves and their babies. The program includes ten prenatal sessions, ten postpartum sessions and a life plan.

DOES SFBIH PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE?

No. If you are in need of medical services we will connect you with a provider.
